Join the MHS for Opening Our Doors, Boston’s largest day of free cultural experiences. We invite you to connect with our knowledgeable staff to learn about the incredible stories held in our collections.
This is a free, drop-in event.
Here's What's Happening:
Screening of Weckuwapok (The Approaching Dawn)
12:00, replays every 30 minutes
Throughout the afternoon, we will screen the documentary Weckuwapok (The Approaching Dawn), which highlights Indigenous relationships with the land and the importance of honoring our collective history. The screening includes a pre-recorded introduction by educator and musician Chris Newell (Passamaquoddy) and a behind-the-scenes feature about the making of the film.
Family Activities
12:00-4:00
Families are invited to take part in hands-on activities, including a scavenger hunt, coloring, learning about kids and Revolutionary figures in our collection, and becoming history sleuths who uncover the uses of everyday objects from the past.
Displays and Gallery Talks
Explore our current exhibition, 1775: Rebels, Rights & Revolution, along with a special display of materials created by Indigenous people from the MHS collection in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
Join us for special gallery talks on the American Revolution.

1:00 & 3:00: Mapping the Journey of Three Revolutionary Women Refugees with Heather Wilson
Galleries will be open from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
